Do you ever recall testing liquids and their pH with litmus paper? If you do, you recall them changing all different colors depending on what the liquid is. While the experiment might have seemed boring at the time, understanding pH levels is extremely important for your health but also know what your body is consuming.

As Wikipedia defines it, In chemistry, pH (/p / or /p h/) is a measure of the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution. Solutions with a pH less than 7 are said to be acidic and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic or alkaline. Pure water has a pH very close to 7.

So now that we know what pH levels mean, here are a couple of items and where they land on the pH scale:

Milk: 6.2

Coffee: 5.5

Orange Juice: 3.5

Soapy Water: 10

Apple Juice: 3

So what does pH mean when it comes to water? The pH level of water determines whether it is hard or sof. As we have talked about before, Hard water has a high mineral content. While it is not generally harmful for ones health, hard water can cause breakdowns with equipment that handles the water. Soft water on the other hand, contains few or no extra elements. Water tested with a pH level less than 6.5 is considered acidic. Water tested with a pH higher than 8.5 is considered basic and is often hard.

The importance of understanding pH water levels is to determine that your water is not damaging the internal parts of your home such as pipies, appliances and anything that works and has water flowing through it.

This is why it is always good to get your water tested! Don't find out the hard way when your appliances and pipes have suffered from damaging pH levels in your water.

Testing is simple. Call Aqua Pump today at (860) 684-5349 for more information and to schedule testing.

It's hard to drink clear, odorless water and think that there are problems with it at all.  Water has the ability to look and smell normal, yet have underlying problems not noticeable to the eye..or nose!

When it comes to the pH levels of your water, it is so important to test as extreme levels on the spectrum can cause havoc on your home and appliances. When water has "low pH" that is also known as "soft water".  On the other end of the spectrum, where water has "high pH", is considered "hard water".

Low pH aka "Soft Water"

When water has a low pH, it is considered soft, which is more acidic. The acidic level can be extremely harmful as it can corrode metals it may come in contact with. The most dangerous part is the corroded metal and if it has the ability to seep into the water source whether that be your pipes or some other appliance or area within your home.  In addition, soft water will noticeably stain clothing or other garments due to the corrosion of metal.

High pH aka "Hard Water"

Water with high pH levels are considered to be "hard water". Hard water is known to create a bad taste in water as well as causing a lime scale build up on pipes and plumbing fixtures within the home or building connected to the water source. Another trait of high pH is the scum build up noticeable on clothing and other items such as dishware

While it might not sound urgent, over time, these two levels can cause harm to homes and appliances making for costly repairs. At Aqua Pump, our company has solutions including pH Neutralizers and softeners for correction of water.
